Did you test out your blender just before buying it?
How about your personal computer?

If you are like many individuals around, then you probably answered absolutely no. Autos tend to be among the handful of consumer merchandise that you can test drive prior to buying (however , autos normally cost you thousands of dollars much more as well). On the other hand, that test drive could be wasted if you do not steer clear of the following risks:

1) Spending too little time on the Test drive

Hopefully, you may have this particular auto for quite a while, consequently shouldn't you invest some minutes to find out if you will in fact enjoy driving it. A 10 minute test drive will show you really little about the car. So, you want to devote at the least half an hour test driving the auto, and in my opinion an hour is actually better yet. A few dealerships will even allow you to take the car over night. If your dealership permits you to do this, then you need to make the most of it.

2) Failing to the test the auto under multiple conditions

Along with investing too little time on the try out, a lot of buyers fail to check the auto on numerous kinds of roads. How does the vehicle handle curves and slopes? So how exactly does the car perform on the interstate? You should find out these answers. A simple drive around the block will show you nothing regarding the car.

3) Test driving just one car

Indeed, I understand you could have your heart set upon that red-colored Mustang ragtop, however shouldn't you discover the way it compares against other cars in its class? You have to test drive various other cars. Don't forget, you are going to be driving this auto for a long time, therefore be sure that there is not a car around that you like better.

4) Waiting until you decide to purchase before you take test drives

You should try out the auto well beforehand from the time you intend to buy. This will likely stop you from making an emotive selection, that you might later regret. Actually, I suggest that you simply leave your check book at home during the try out; on the other hand, you might want to bring a notepad to take notes. Also, you shouldn't wait until your present car has broken down to start test driving a new auto. This can just stress you into buying a car which you might not want.

5) Test driving the car together with the Salesperson

Don't permit the salesman to join you, on your test drive. They will spend the entire time talking up the auto, distracting you. These days, a lot of salesmen will attempt to speak you into allowing them to go along, try not to fall for the idea. The best thing to do is to bring a friend or member of the family along with you. Not merely will they stop the salesperson from annoying you, nonetheless they may offer an honest opinion about the auto. In the event you aren't able to get someone with you, then you should be firm and inform the salesman that you want to try out the car on your own.

Test driving a new car is a fantastic possibility. If you're able to avoid the above problems then you'll be much far better knowledgeable and closer to finding the car you want.

Sometimes, it seems like insurance isn't worth it. As the recession has affected insurance companies as well as the rest of us, and with rising fraudulent claim figures, many customers feel that insurers maybe being tighter over claims, and in some cases, unfairly wriggling out of paying out altogether. So is there anything you can do?

The first thing is read your policy wording. You should find out exactly what you are covered for, in order to avoid any nasty surprises later on. As an example, there have been cases where people were leaving their cars running unattended outside their house on very cold mornings, so the car was defrosted and nice and warm ready for the morning drive to work. Foolish I know, and some unlucky souls had their cars stolen as a result. Naturally, insurance companies were not too happy about having to pay out when the theft could easily have been avoided by people using their common sense and so most policies now have an endorsement on them denying any claims if the car was stolen with the keys.

With me so far? OK, so here's the problem: If you wanted to steal a modern car today, it would be nigh on impossible, without the keys. So what do thieves do? Simple. They take the easy route and steal the keys, and then the car, but because of the aforementioned clause, there have been cases where people have lost out when their insurance companies have refused to pay out. You could probably appeal successfully against this if there was plenty of evidence to show violent entry to your property, but the thieves have some very clever tricks up their sleeves...

In one instance, a person's keys were stolen through their letter box using a rod and hook. On another occasion, a thief nipped into an owner's house while he was pre-occupied mowing his lawn. In these types of circumstances, being turned down by your car insurance company would feel very unfair, and could lead to a sizeable loss. And it's also unlikely your house insurance would provide any help or cover for this.

The idea to learn from this is, don't leave your car keys anywhere in sight near the front door or any open windows. Your keys will be harder to steal if a thief doesn't know where they are. Many people also leave their house keys in the door when they go to bed at night.  This seems like a perfectly innocent thing to do, but again, with a bent coat hanger and knowing where the lock is from it's position on the outside, the keys to your house could disappear as well. And do you keep your car keys on your house key ring? Unfortunately, simple things like this can cost you dear, as thieves get increasingly sophisticated.

Lastly, always set your alarm if you have one. If your car or property insurance company knows you have an alarm, (you probably got a discount for it), they will expect you to use it, and you could lose out if you don't.

My Car was totaled but they won't pay me a fair price,
I have a 1996 Del Sol. Only 8400 were made that year.
Even less exactly as mine was built. I am the original
owner and a fanatic about maintenance and it's in top
condition and looks. Service managers, service writers
and mechanics always ask me if I want to sell it. I was
in an accident, not my fault and the car was totaled. The
"at fault" insurance company used some "Auto Source" to
estimate the value at 00 "around my area". Hell, they
can't even find one NATIONWIDE so they find a similar
model (but not mechanically or optioned the same) and
tell me that's all they'll pay me. I sumitted SEVERAL
sheets of nationwide "for sale" cars, even though they
weren't exactly like mine, I could find one or two that
were closer mechanically and options, different color,
different mileage. They were selling for 00. And I
don't know the mechanical condition, this is just going
by info provided. So how can I buy another car like mine?
I explained that you can't find a car like mine so I will have
to wait until one is for sale at market prices, or THEY can
find me a car like mine and pay whatever it costs. I know,
I'm pathetic, it's just a car! But it's MY car and they destroyed
it and I want what I had before they caused the accident!
They won't even tell me where they towed it to and won't release
it until I pay for the TOWING AND STORAGE because I didn't
agree with their low-ball estimate! So storage fees are adding
up plus the tow fees and I don't have money or a car. I was
told to go through MY insurance which is even more pathetic
than ME!!! They didn't even return my calls when the accident
first happened and told me that the "at fault" insurance would
handle everything and closed the claim! So now what do I do?

I scratched a car's wheelwell because it had parked too close behind me in a narrow driveway. I didn't see how close it was, until the scratch! Anyway, no big deal I thought. I gave my insurance number. Anyway, the repair cost 0, which I thought was too high for a couple inches of damage, but insurance paid it.
Background, 30 years driver, no accidents and maybe one ticket. Fifteen years with four cars in this agency, NEVER a claim.
I registered my son for his learners/drivers and they quoted me the standard price for his age and gender. Then, they sent the bill but had added 0 annually to my son's insurance costs. I called to ask why, and they said that the added charge was due to "a claim by a family member". They said it was because of the 0 that they paid.
Okay....I expect to cover my son through high school and college, probably for 6 years or 7 years. This each year with the increased cost. They will receive over ,000 back in that increased fees to my son.
My question is, can they penalize another person for someone elses claim? That does not seem right. Also, can they recoup MORE than the claim that they paid out? This does not seem fair, as especially since we are like paying a lot for their services.
