Is it illegal to drive car if you personally don't have car insurance?

Let's say a teenager doesn't have car insurance and he has his license. His car is registered in his parents name and the teenager isn't under the family car insurance. The teen drives his car and gets wrecked in a accident. Now will he be protected because the car is under his parent's insurance and they let him use the vehicle?
So technically you can only borrow a friend's car if there car insurance policy allows it?

When you get a car for your teenager, would you register and insure it in their name or yours? When you call to add the car to insurance, do you add the teenager or just add the car to your own policy?

My husband and I are confused about how this works. Our twins who are turning 16 this year were given a car by a friend of ours. We want to make sure it's all done legal and legit so that if they were in an accident it would be covered. I thought you had to add the teenager to your insurance as in the person is covered not just the car. My husband thinks we can just ad the car to our policy and let them drive it and they will be covered. I don't think so, Otherwise why wouldn't everyone do that to save the money they charge when you add a teenager? They will be taking driver's ed which is supposed to help with insurance cost so that leads me to think even more that you need to add the teenager as someone to be insured and not just insure the car.

can anyone help me out here as to what the proper thing to do is to make sure we will covered properly. And who's name should the car be registered in? Can you have a car registered in your name as a minor or not?

I didn't know about the good grade thing but that would be nice because they are both honor students!
they are both boys. At least the car isn;t red, I heard insurance is higher on a red car...seriously! Their car is white.

I have my own insurance on my own car with Farmers Insurance. However, my best friend just bought a new car and her insurance rate sucks. Can I insure my friends car under my name with Gieco and add my friend as a secondary driver and keep my Farmers insurance under my own car? Also, is there any way that Farmers would no if I did this? Do I have to tell anyone I have two insurance companies? Just put insurance, right?

my stepson just got his learner's permit, he may be driving my husband's truck once in a while to learn, (I think he'll be driving mostly when he's at his mom's house), a mile here and a mile there. We have geico insurance, do we need to add him temporarily? i tried to look at our coverage and get a quote, but it won't let me without actually adding him as a driver. i'm not about to add him without a quote since he's only 16... way too young to be driving in my opinion, but that's another issue...

My step daughter has a car registered in her name at her home address. She wants her father who lives at a different address to add her to his insurance as the second driver. The premium will be far cheaper. But her father will not drive the car. I think its known as 'Fronting'.

I want to know for this kind of insurance would her father have to be the registered owner and would the car have to be registered at his address?

As a second driver will she be able to drive anywhere in the country and still be covered?

If she gets a speeding ticket and he is the registered owner who will get the points and/or fine?

My sister is 17 years old and has had her license for about half a year now. our parents' insurance people just called to ask that we add her to our insurance plan but she isn`t driving at all (she was in an accident when she was 14 with one of her friend`s families and hasn`t been comfortable driving in a car with us, let alone driving herself), so is that really necessary/required or are they just trying to get more money out of us?
it isn`t exactly cheap to add another person to the insurance plan...
